Early on in my reiki & energy journey, I heard other practitioner friends mention that those who offered distant attunements were doing their students a disservice. They also accused such teachers of being money minded and unethical in their practice. Not being very experienced back then, I held on firmly to the view that distant attunements don’t work.
As I traversed the Reiki & energy paths, I had significant experiences that proved to me that energy is not bound by space and time. Then I began to ask myself this question:
“If a distance healing can work, why not a distant attunement?”
The energy is the same and the principles are similar. If we send Reiki to someone and it can reach their energy frequencies over a distance, then why can’t the chakras be opened and the person attuned over a distance?

You can attune to both by distance or in-person. Both types of attunements are just as effective as each other at attuning you to energies.
The choice of which kind of attunement you choose is personal, and the decision should be lead by your intuition and what feels right for you. Anyone who firmly pushes their beliefs or suggestion onto you, especially without having experience of both types of attunement, should be questioned.
Be open to your truth and use discernment when choosing a teacher for either type of attunement.
There is a case for both types of Reiki & energy attunement, and there is something to be said for the personal touch of a Reiki or energy master when receiving an in-person Reiki or energy attunement.
Although personal contact is not necessary for a Reiki or energy attunement, some people feel more confident with this and should do what is right for them.
Always follow your heart and intuition. In-person attunements are not for everyone though and are not necessary for Reiki or energy attunement.
This blog post does not intend to put forward the argument for both cases. It aims to give you the benefits of distant Reiki & energy attunements. It is designed for those who are curious about distant Reiki & energy attunements or feel open to receiving them and for those who are unable to receive in-person attunements. It is worth mentioning that Reiki is only one of the thousands of energy healing modalities.
You can pass all attunements by distance with many being explicitly designed for distant attunements.
What Are The Benefits Of Distant Reiki Attunements?
To help you decide if distant attunements may be right for you, I have listed some possible benefits:
· There are many people who wish to get attuned to Reiki and other energy but have no access to classes and teachers. If distant attunements work just as well as in person attunements, imagine the benefit to such recipients
Through a lot of experience, I know that distant attunements are just as effective as in-person attunements with the benefits.
· You can receive distant Reiki attunements in the comfort of your own home and surroundings.
· You can accept your distant Reiki attunement whenever you are ready – at any time.
· You can have complete privacy during the attunement.
· You can receive the attunement at a convenient time for you.
· There are no inconvenient class times or schedules.
· You can study and practice at your own pace.
· Distant Reiki attunements are perfect for those who live in remote areas.
· Distant Reiki attunements eliminate the cost of and time taken to travel.
· Distant Reiki attunements are more affordable, yet just as effective.
· Receiving distant Reiki attunements often give you more attention and focus than if you were in a large class.
· Distant Reiki attunements allow those who are shy in groups to be able to ask questions and feel more comfortable and secure.
· You are given constant email tutorage before, during and after your purchase and attunement.
Possible Disadvantages of Distance Attunement
If they are sceptical or uncomfortable with the idea, it may not work. When we firmly believe that something cannot work, we will not be able to see the result even when it does work. It is as simple as that
What about ethics?
While it could be true that there are teachers who do distance attunements only to make quick money, it does not imply that everyone who does distance attunements is a cheat. Teachers who want to be unethical will be so irrespective of whether they offer personal attunements or distant attunements.
When a Reiki Master has an open heart chakra and attunes a person over a distance, she is doing so from a place of love and compassion. And that is powerful.
When you act from a place of love and compassion, the Universe supports you in every way possible. I find it hard to believe that the Universe would say something like, ‘I’m sorry. A rule is a rule. You cannot do a distant attunement because it’s not widely accepted yet.” The Universe supports growth, expansion and love and cares little about rules and regulations that stifle growth.
After I took on healing as a profession, I decided that I would offer distant attunements only to those people who had no access to classes and teachers and to those who wished to learn from me but lived in a different location. However since covid things have changed and now distance attunements are available to all.
In conclusion
it’s all about intention. A sincere intention to be of service, a heart full of love and an open mind are the only requirements for distant attunements to work. If the teacher is blessed with these, no power can come in his or her way. Barriers of space and time dissolve. The Universe offers complete support and distant attunements work just as well as in person attunements.
